THE CHALLENGE
The Opportunity Gap Is Real. So Is the Solution.
Mauritius invests significantly in education — yet too many children still fall behind, particularly in under-resourced communities.
These gaps don't reflect a lack of potential. They reflect a lack of opportunity. Teach For Mauritius exists to change that — by placing exceptional leaders in classrooms and building a movement that works across sectors to transform education from within.
OUR SOLUTION
A Two-Year Fellowship. A Lifetime of Leadership.
We recruit outstanding graduates and professionals, train them intensively, and place them as Fellows in underserved schools — where they make an immediate difference for students and develop into long-term agents of change.

Our Vision
Leading Change From Inside the Classroom
Lasting change in education doesn't come from the outside in — it comes from leaders with lived experience of the challenge. By placing high-potential Fellows at the heart of under-resourced classrooms, Teach For Mauritius builds a pipeline of leaders who understand the system deeply and are equipped to transform it — as teachers today, and as policymakers, entrepreneurs, and advocates tomorrow.
Purpose: A Vision of Student Success
Everything starts with a clear, locally rooted vision of what success looks like for students — not just academically, but as confident leaders in their communities. This vision is co-created with students, families, and communities to ensure it is relevant and owned by all.

Lenses: How Teachers See and Understand
Our Fellows learn to see their students, themselves, and their communities through new perspectives. They challenge deficit-based thinking and embrace students' cultural identities and potential as assets — not obstacles.
Strategies: Designing for Collective Learning
Learning That Builds Agency Fellows design discovery-based, inclusive, and collaborative learning experiences. Classrooms become spaces where students solve real-world problems, practice leadership, and take ownership of their education.
Outcomes: Students as Leaders of Change
The goal is students who emerge as leaders of a more just and equitable future — equipped with critical thinking, empathy, resilience, and the ability to inspire others.

How We Turn Vision Into Action Across
Schools and Communities
Working alongside the Ministry of Education, Teach For Mauritius proposes a pilot placement scheme placing Fellows as Assistant Teachers in ZEP and priority schools. Fellows co-teach, support students with learning needs, and deliver subject content — all within a structure that ensures classroom authority, impact evaluation, and alignment with MIE standards.
In partnership with MIE and the Ministry of Education, we offer an alternative certification route inspired by leading Teach For All models — combining intensive pre-service training, in-classroom experience, and phased coursework toward full national teaching qualification.
We remain a responsive partner. Every aspect of our approach is open to refinement in close collaboration with the Ministry of Education, school leaders, and communities — ensuring alignment with national priorities at every step.
